2026 admission calendar: the dates that decide your year

In Bucharest, results land on 13 July. You have until the 15th to pay €5,000, or your place goes to the next candidate.
Forty-eight hours. An international transfer takes three to five days. Do the arithmetic: if you wait for the results before arranging the payment, you’re already late.
The Romanian calendar isn’t difficult, it’s fragmented — six universities, twelve sessions, no coordination between them. Here are all the dates, and above all the strategy to adopt depending on when you’re reading this.

🏛️ The detail, university by university
UMF Iuliu Hațieganu — Cluj-Napoca
A rare feature: no interview, no exam. One hundred per cent on application.
Two sessions, with a clear logic: Session I is for those who already hold their school-leaving certificate, Session II for those sitting it in 2026. Around 200 places in the international stream, €10,000/year, €300 non-refundable application fee.
Our advice. If you already have your certificate, go for Session I without hesitating. More places remain, and you avoid the wave of new school leavers who all arrive together in July.
UMF Carol Davila — Bucharest
The most sought-after, and the one with the tightest calendar. Application plus an online interview in English, 15 to 30 minutes, to be slotted in between 10 April and 10 July — you choose your slot. Around 300 places, €10,000/year, 2,500 RON (~€500) in fees.
Bucharest’s 48 hours. Results on 13 July, confirmation before 15 July by paying 50% of the tuition fees — around €5,000. Miss the deadline and the place goes to the next candidate on the waiting list.
Set the transfer up before results are published: funds in the account, the university’s bank details saved as a payee, and your transfer limit raised with your bank. It’s a ten-minute job in June that stops you losing a place in July.
UMF Grigore T. Popa — Iași
A tight calendar, and everything is wrapped up before the summer: applications from March to 25 May, eliminating interviews of around 10 minutes from 1 to 19 June, results on 24 June. Around 200 places, €9,000/year, €200 in fees.
Our advice. Iași combines two underrated advantages: it’s one of the cheapest in the group, and you know by the end of June whether you’re in. That early certainty changes everything — it leaves you two months to organise housing and departure rather than spending the summer in limbo.
UMFST George Emil Palade — Târgu Mureș
The only one operating rolling admission, with four sessions from March to September. Application plus an eliminating interview, a compulsory reference letter and a motivation letter of 250–300 words. Around 150 places, €10,000/year, €500 in fees.
Our advice. “First come, first served” isn’t a figure of speech here: places genuinely diminish with each session. Applying in S1 rather than S3 doesn’t change your application, but it changes the number of places left a great deal.
Ovidius University — Constanța
Two sessions, July and September — the second being the Romanian calendar’s real safety net. Application only, no interview. B1 accepted, against B2 elsewhere. The cheapest in the group at €8,000/year, around 110 places.
UMF Victor Babeș — Timișoara
The only one to impose a written biology exam on EU applicants: 50 multiple-choice questions, in person, on 27 July. Language test from 21 to 23 July. Non-EU applicants are assessed on their application alone. €9,000/year, €200 in fees.
Budget for the trip: flight, hotel, and at least one night there. And revise — this is not a formality. The detail of each selection method is in our admissions comparison.

Phase 1 · January → February · Preparation
Nothing has opened yet, and that’s precisely when it’s all decided.

🎯 Your strategy, by profile
You already have your school-leaving certificate
Apply to Session I at Cluj and to Iași in parallel, between March and May. Neither imposes a written exam, and you’ll have your results in June — four months ahead of the new school leavers.
If Cluj S1 doesn’t come through, you still have Session II, plus Bucharest and Târgu Mureș S2/S3.
You sit your final exams in June 2026
Target Cluj Session II, Bucharest and Târgu Mureș S2 or S3, between June and July. Your results will arrive in time.
And prepare everything else in the application before your exams. It feels counter-intuitive while you’re revising, but that is exactly when the apostilles need to go out.
You’ve missed July
You still have Constanța’s September session (17 August – 10 September) and Târgu Mureș S4. Be warned: remaining places are sometimes in single figures. It’s playable, it isn’t comfortable.

⚠️ The two timing traps
The apostille and the translations
The apostille on your school-leaving certificate takes one to three weeks. Sworn translations, another one to three. Total: four to six weeks you cannot compress, and over which you have no control.
If you wait until your certificate is in hand to start the apostille, you’re already too late for the June and July sessions.
It’s the most common trap, and it’s defused in one sentence: start the process on your transcripts and birth certificate in February, without waiting for the diploma. Our translation and apostille guide gives the exact order of operations.
The confirmation window

The countermeasure is three actions, done in June: fund the account, save the university’s bank details as a payee, and have your transfer limit raised. On results day, all that’s left is to confirm.
What to take away
The Romanian calendar is dense, fragmented and offers no second chance. Each university moves at its own pace, and a missed date costs a full year.
Two rules cover 90% of the risk: work six to eight weeks ahead on anything that depends on an administration, and apply to two or three universities in parallel — while never confirming more than one place, since the deposits are non-refundable.

Find the sessions in the table that are still open to you. Put the deadlines in your calendar with alerts at 7, 3 and 1 day out. Then start the apostilles — it’s the one item that never catches up.
